17 Elden Ring Builds You Can Complete Without Visiting Roundtable Hold

The Roundtable Hold in Elden Ring is an iconic location that opens up many gameplay systems. However, for players looking to challenge themselves, role-play a specific scenario, or simply avoid the usual progression path, there are viable builds you can complete entirely without ever stepping foot in the Roundtable Hold. Whether you're speedrunning or doing a themed challenge, these 17 builds offer variety, power, and plenty of strategic depth — all from outside the hub.

1. Dex-Based Twinblade BuildThe Twinblade in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins is available early and pairs well with light armor. It doesn’t require smithing upgrades from the Hold and can carry you through Limgrave and beyond.

2. Fire Monk Faith BuildFarm Fire Monk enemies for their incantations and equipment. These spells and weapons scale with Faith, making it a strong early-game caster build without needing the Roundtable Hold’s vendors.

3. Strength Colossal Weapon BuildYou can find Greatswords like the Troll's Golden Sword in the overworld. Level up Strength and two-hand it for solid stagger potential.

4. Magic Rapier BuildThe Rogier’s Rapier +8 is acquired automatically after helping Rogier at Stormveil Castle, and you don't need to visit the Hold to get it.

5. Archer BuildWith enough arrows bought from Kale or crafted, and a longbow found in the world, a ranged build becomes quite powerful without the need for smithing stones from the Hold.

6. Bleed Uchigatana BuildYou start with the Uchigatana as a Samurai. Focus on Dex and Arcane for bleed buildup and stay mobile. You can also dual-wield if you grab a second Uchigatana in the Deathtouched Catacombs.

7. Beast Clergyman Strength/Faith BuildThe Beast Claw incantations from Gurranq scale with Strength and Faith. Get them through Deathroot turn-ins — no Roundtable Hold needed.

8. Poison Dagger BuildUse quick-strike daggers with poison affinity. Items and ashes of war found early on let you infuse and customize, all without hub access.

9. Cold Claymore BuildThe Claymore from Castle Morne, when paired with a frost-based Ash of War, gives excellent damage and status effect potential.

10. Incantation-Only Prophet BuildStart as a Prophet and stick to the incantations and gear you find from enemies and early-game vendors. This build thrives with careful FP management and spacing.

11. Whip BuildPick up the Thorned Whip or other early whips and go for a ranged melee playstyle. They’re underrated, and fun to experiment with.

12. Faith Bow BuildUse the Erdtree Bow with Holy arrows for a unique ranged Faith build. It’s situational but very thematic.

13. Torch BuildUse the Torchpole or the Clawmark Seal combo for melee-and-incantation versatility. Torch-based combat is especially fun in dark zones.

14. Frost Knight BuildGet early frost weapons or use cold-infused ashes. Stay light, rely on hit-and-run tactics, and inflict Frostbite quickly.

15. Shield-Only BuildUsing Greatshields and high Strength, you can bash your way through many encounters. Greatshields can be found early and don’t need the Hold to become viable.

16. Club or Bonk BuildUse raw Strength and Great Clubs or Hammers. These often require little to no fancy upgrades and excel in raw damage.

17. PvP Invasion BuildIf you're focused on PvP, you can invade with basic weapons and clever tactics. This minimalist build lets you farm for cheap Elden Ring runes by invading unsuspecting players and winning through strategy.

While these builds avoid many mid- and late-game resources, they’re excellent for players looking to try new challenges or avoid linear progression. You can still buy Elden Ring items from merchants in the world and collect materials through farming and exploration. If you're running low on resources, it’s helpful to find ways to get cheap Elden Ring runes early, especially if you're skipping the Hold's upgrade services.

These 17 builds prove that with a little planning and creativity, you can take on Elden Ring’s toughest challenges without ever setting foot in the Roundtable Hold.
